Jonah is terribly ill and the first motive to push you through Nier Replicant revolves around saving her.
As a result, the question begins to come to mind immediately after the jump, and the desire for an answer becomes more and more urgent as you hold it down. The protagonist and sister Jonah are much like their mysterious intro, and appear to haven’t changed over time. The game begins in modern Tokyo, destroyed and invaded by airy creatures called shades, and pushes you into a future medieval civilization that has barely scraped you for over 1,000 years. It was NieR’s strongest suit at the time and is still with this remaster.

Series creator Taro Yokoo likes to live up to the expectations of his players and says it’s enough to guide you before you hit a wild revelation that sinks into your seat. But Nier Replicant is here to make you feel something, and it does so in a way that very few games can pull off. It’s an action RPG with smooth combat reminiscent of automata, but suffers from the outdated design philosophy it adheres to. Retaining the story, characters, scenarios, and structure, this remaster includes some important gameplay and visual improvements in addition to an important part of the new story content that extends the original story. It’s fascinating to be sad, but when you look at Nier Replicant’s conclusions completely, you’ll also cherish that moment of warmth.įor better or for worse, Nier Replicant retains much of the original experience from the 2010 release (based on the Japanese version with the brother’s protagonist, not the father’s lead in the Western release). There is always a melancholy hanging in NieR’s violent world, and the more you fight, the more you will understand how tragic human life is. You fight, fight, fight people, and you, the protagonist, are all betting and responsible for your plight.
Nier: If Automata was about discovering your humanity in a lifeless world, Nier Replicant is about a world that fights desperately to maintain the humanity it left behind, and often fails to do so.
